Henry’s Lake 10-19-2009

All reports we have so far speak of spotty results.  The west side , that is from the cliffs to the County Boat Ramp, seem to be the best location.  Action is certain to pick up soon.

Big Lost River 10-19-2009

Flow out of Mackay Dam is now less than 100 cfs. This means fish will be concentrated in deepest holes. During PMs they will come out for BWOs or midges, but this low flow makes them quite wary.

Henry’s Fork 10-19-2009

It’s much like the South Fork: BWO life cycle patterns or streamers. These are the best choices for action up & down the river.   The weather is right, crowds are down, insect pests gone, and the time of year is right.  Get out and enjoy!

Browns are on the move! From Menan to American Falls Reservoir you can encounter big browns almost anywhere under low light conditions. There are many walk-in locations and several boat ramps up & down the river.  Get in touch with us to learn some of the best locations for a chance at what could be the fish of a season.

South Fork 10-19-2009

The flow out of Palisades Dam has been stable at about 3000 cfs for several days now.  Expect it to drop further.  Nevertheless, the weather is co-operating if you enjoy fishing either BWOs or streamers.  PMs will be best for the BWOs and low light conditions such as evenings, cloudy or stormy days, early mornings will be best for streamers.  Browns are beginning to migrate, so expect action if you present streamers or wooly bugger patterns.

Lost near the Lorenzo Boat Ramp: An Orvis fly rod with Orvis reel. If found, please contact  Matt Hess: 801-682-0740 or [email protected].

South Fork 10-16-09

Flows on the South Fork have remained steady at 3000 cfs. Blue Wing Olives, rubberlegs and beadhead nymphs have been producing the most fish day in and day out. There has been talk of streamer fishing during the days that are overcast and nasty. Otherwise fish them in the mornings and evenings. The river is very accessible by wading. You should find access all up and down the river. Shorter floats will take the majority of the day. We do not recommend floating the entire canyon in one day unless you have a motor. If you have any questions feel free to call us at the shop.

Big Lost River 10-15-2009

With flow out of Mackay Dam at 150 cfs, the river below is in great wading shape.  Midges and BWOS bring surface action, small bead head nymphs and soft hackled patterns bring action below.

Still Waters 10-15-2009

Action is really picking up on most of these. Try fall color leeches on Chesterfield Reservoir where algae bloom is nearly gone.  Use same color leeches on Daniels Reservoir, but prince and hare’s ear nymphs are working. A few callibaetis remain on Hawkins Reservoir.   Of course midge pupa under a strike indicator will work on all these when you find the taking depth.  Springfield Res. seems to be the slowest of the bunch, but action there will pick up as we move towards the end of the month.
