Southwestern Montana 6-19-10
Little fished Reservoir Lake north and west of Clark Canyon has been a hot spot for those fishing small leech patterns. Cliff and Wade lake have also been good fishing. Try midge pupa under a strike indicator.
Yellowstone Park 6-19-10
Best dry fly fishing by far is on the Firehole River during this late spring. Caddis, BWOs PMDs and a smattering of small stoneflies make for action. Madison River PMD hatch has resumed. Duck Creek is good fishing for those using small leech patterns. Fall River Basin streams are dropping. Best still water action is on Lewis and Shoshone lakes. Get out to weed beds and use full sink lines to get scud and damselfly nymph patterns down to foraging browns and juvenile macks. Trout Lake opened on June 15th. No reports on it yet, but damselfly nymph patterns work well until “weed-up”. The Ashton-Flagg Road remains closed from the Idaho side to our knowledge, so no reports available on Beula Lake.
Big Lost River 6-19-10
Flow out of Mackay Dam is just under 900 cfs making wading difficult and in some places dangerous.
Henry’s Lake 6-19-10
We hear that fish are beginning to move to deeper water. This means get out on the lake and troll streamers, try midge pupa or even scud patterns. In a few weeks Damselfly nymphs will be the name of the game, then look for spring holes and shallow water.
Still Waters 6-19-10
Action on such as Chesterfield, Daniels, Twenty-Four Mile, Treasureton, Springfield, and Hawkins will pick up as weather warms. Damselfly nymphs, working sporadically now, will be the best choice. For now midge pupa under an indicator will work. Some success can be had using brown leech patterns in deeper waters. Twin Lakes with its active bluegills would be a great place for a Father’s Day trip with the family.
Small Streams 6-19-10
Small streams in the Henry’s Fork drainage are shaping up. Most are a bit high, but clear. The Fall River stonefly hatch has begun. Action will move up to the Kirkham Bridge soon. Robinson Creek and its tribs are high, clear and fisheable. Big stoneflies have emerged, but wet flies and nymph patterns are best until flows drop some. Teton River remains high & discolored. In the canyon, stoneflies should hatch in significant numbers soon. Warm and Buffalo rivers, Partridge and Tom’s creeks are great choices for trying light weight tackle with caddisflies, PMDs, BWOs, and a few golden stones emerging (on Warm River). Birch Creek family area remains a great place to take youngsters, oldsters and entry level folks. Most emergences there are during afternoons. Beaver and Medicine Lodge creeks are also high, clear, and fisheable. PMD hatches on the upper Portneuf River are resulting in action. Salt River drainage streams in Idaho are also high,and clear. No reports yet on fishing success there.
Henry’s Fork 6/18
This time of year is the best time to fish the Henry’s Fork. You can choose your poison, Nymphs, Dry Flies or Streamers. There are a lot of Pale Morning Duns and Caddis. You also have Golden Stones, and we are expecting the Drakes to hatch any day. As far as water clarity goes everything is looking good, the Fall River has dropped. Parker’s pick for the weekend are these five flies:

- Tan X Caddis
- Harrops CDC Thorax Green Drake
South Fork 6/17
The flows have been dropped to 16,000 cfs today and the water report states that flows will continue to drop around 15,000 cfs by this weekend. I would expect the fishing to really pick up this weekend. San Juan worms have been the ticket for the high water, also stonefly nymphs have been really producing fish as well. With the high flows from this past week remember to check side channels for anything that would be hazardous to your boat and how it floats. Don’t let these high flows from this past week keep you from fishing the South Fork. You will find good fishing this weekend nymphing and pulling streamers. This weekend might be a great time to go camping in the canyon before the crowds come for the holiday next month. Call the shop for any questions.
South Fork 6-15-10
USBurRec will be reducing the flow out of Palisades Reservoir in 1000 cfs amounts over the next few days. At time of this message flow out of Palisades Dam is 21300 cfs.
