Fly Tying Demos

SATURDAY FLY TYING DEMONSTRATIONS
OPEN TO PUBLIC– NO CHARGE

10:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M., Saturdays from November 14th, 2009 to March 6th, 2010
Jimmy’s All Seasons Angler proudly features this winter-time institution for regional fly-fishers and fly tiers.  These Saturday fly tying demonstrations are free to the public.  Attending these morning demos is a great way to learn tying techniques, new and old and to stay current on the use of materials and tools. The tiers we feature are among the best.  Each has great experience in tying and use of the flies they will demonstrate, and each is ready to share their knowledge and skills with you.

Harley Reno holds degrees to the doctorate level  in zoology.  His academic specialty is the evolution of sensory and anatomical systems of fish and other vertebrates.  He has taught these fields on the university level and consulted in them through employment in the private sector.  In addition, Harley has a fifty-year career as a professional fishing guide in pursuit of game fish from salmonids to warm water species.   All this has taken time and resources, but Harley has found time to become a fly tier of recognized ability.   He has been invited to demonstrate his skills at the tying vise at shows including FFF  International and Regional Conclaves, the Eastern Idaho Fly Tying and Fly Fishing Expo, the Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo and the Wsestern Colorado Fly Tying Expo.   His flies have gained reputations as effective “fish catchers” including on and in regional waters.  He ties primarily with a Nor-Vise, and his demo will feature the use of this unique and facile vise.  Though his demo you can learn the advantages and joys of using this vise and the steps to tie and them present such as “La Mouche” and other flies that Harley has recently conceived.

March 20th: Chuck Duncan

March 27th: Doug Gibson
