Henry’s Fork 2/21

I have had lots of good reports from the Henry’s Fork. If you can get in through the snow, the Box Canyon is fishing really well. The lower river is also producing fish in good numbers. Most of the action is on nymphs but on the right day you will find some great dry fly action on Midges. Remember the entire Henry’s Fork is open to fishing year around now except Herriman Park and Ashton Dam to Vernon Bridge. There is lots of good fishing, just make sure you pick the right day when you go.

South Fork 2/15

The weather has been warm for the past few days and the fishing has picked up considerably on the river. Mostly nymph fishing, but some dry fly action with midges. There is not really any opportunity to float the river right now due to the boat ramps being snowed in. However with the flows holding at 2200 cfs there are lots of access points for wade fishing.

Today at Jimmy’s

Stop into the shop and see some changes we made. Half of our customers yesterday didn’t notice it…will you? We have some more changes coming down the road this winter.

Scott Sanchez is tying this Saturday for our morning demo. He is a really good fly tier with lots of experience fishing the Snake River drainage. I have had the oppertunity to hang out with Scott on many different occasions and it’s always a blast. Scott is also doing a book signing for his new release “The Never Ending Stream”

Lots of tying classes coming up. We have 2 beginning classes starting in march and some Special Topics classes being offered as well. Here is the link with all the info.

Today at Jimmys 1/20

We have been busy here at the shop working on our Winter Projects. we have been putting together fly tying kits for our beginning classes, and putting together special topic fly tying classes. Another winter time project is marking down all the inventory that has been discontinued for the upcoming season. As of right now we have some selected Jackets from Simms on sale. This is a great time to get a new Gore Tex wading jacket from Simms at an awesome price. The only time we can put these items on sale is when they are being discontinued, and that doesn’t happen very often.

Rollin and Jimmy went fishing this last week, stop by and talk to them about it. They caught lots of fish and had a good time. I haven’t made it out yet. Probably tomorrow.

Todd Lanning is tying on Sat. morning. Todd is the General Manager of South Fork Outfitters. Todd is an extremely talented fly tier, and loves to share information about the South Fork to those willing to listen. I love watching Todd tie so don’t be surprised to see me sitting in the back corner Sat. morning watching him.

We are wanting to update the photos on our photo gallery. We are looking for fish photos that suggest the fish was released. The photo of the trout in the gravel next to your fly rod is hard to post because it looks like its about to die regardless if it was released or not. We really like “hero shots,” pictures of women and kids holding fish and anything related to fly fishing. If you have a eye for photography send us some photos and we will get them posted on the site. email them to [email protected].

South Fork 1/20

Just wanted to give you all an update of the flow situation for the South Fork. Flows have been increased to 1900 cfs. to make room in the reservoir. Midges have been hatching on the warmer days. Still not a lot of options for floating at this point. Call or stop by the shop for advice and up to the minute info.

Today at Jimmy’s 1/4

Here at the shop we made it through the Holidays. We always do Inventory the week between Christmas and New Years, its not something all of us here at the shop look forward to because every item in the store needs to be counted, including every fly. Once all of our inventory is counted we start on the paperwork. We had a great year and thanks to all of our customers who support us. We hope you all had a good 2010 and we are looking forward to 2011.

One of the first things we are going to start 2011 off with is our Fly Tying Classes. We will be offering Beginning Fly Tying and Special Topics Classes. Our beginning class starts right at the very basics of fly tying, and teaches the students a solid foundation for tying many different types of patterns. This class covers everything from a #4 Wolley Bugger to #16 Dry Flies. Our special topics class is designed to focus on specific topics. In the past we have taught classes on Streamers, Stoneflies, Beadhead patterns, and Tube Flies. These classes will be available again for those of you who missed them last winter. However I am interested in organizing more special topics courses and if there is a topic you have an interest in, let us know and we will put it together. Check out the Tying Class Schedule on our website or by clicking here for the upcoming classes.

South Fork 11/3

Flow out of Palisades Dam is now at 1750 cfs. This low flow makes for a great selection of walk-in places for pitching streamers and finding fish taking BWOs. But there are places such around Twin Bridges where floating will be a bit tougher. Stormy times are predicted for this week, so get out and enjoy the South Fork before Old Man Winter takes over. Come in and talk to us about some prime walk-in locations along the river.

Henry’s Fork 11/3

Browns are moving all over in the lower river. With predicted stormy weather for the week, good actions is more than a possibility! Likewise the big rainbows in Box Canyon go after streamers this time of year.

Henry’s Lake 11/3

Expect the stormy weather coming up to improve the fishing good as it is. Shallow water is where the action will continue to be for the rest of the season. Concentrat on presenting those leech patterns.
