If you don’t mind unsettled weather, the river below Mackay Dam is a place for some great action because of BWO and midge activity.

No change with respect to the great fishing success and taking strategy on Chesterfield and Daniels reservoirs. Springfield is coming on with the breakup of weeds. Now wooly bugger types in fall colors will be almost as effective there as presenting midge pupa patterns.
There can be some great nymph and streamer fishing on such as the lower Teton River, lower Fall River, Birch Creek, and the middle and lower parts of the Portneuf River before winter sets in.
You want a big brown of the year? Now is the time, and almost any walk-in location along the river could be the place. Bring your favorite streamer patterns and present them on a sink tip line.
The Madison River is offering great streamer and nymph fishing. This is the case whether you try the stretch blow highway 191, between Hebgen and Quake lakes or the river below Slide Inn.
Streamers and large nymphs are working well on the river between Quake and Hebgen lakes. The same is going on for the river below Slide Inn. Don’t overlook BWO and caddis patterns. Beaverhead browns are moving and taking streamers.
Water is beginning to cool into the lower 40s in Deg. F. This means present flies deep. They are arriving in good numbers, so expect some action before winter moves in and puts on a slowdown.
The upcoming storm will mean great streamer fishing up and down the river. This will also make for BWO activity, so look also for fish taking BWO patterns. Dress warmly!
Many of these waters will close the end of November. Some will not be accessible soon because roads will not be maintained as winter moves in. Some that should be accessible through November include lower Teton River, lower Fall River, Birch Creek, and the middle and lower parts of the Portneuf River. Consult with us with respect to fishing conditions and access for these.
Fishing closes Sunday, so only a few days are left to get and enjoy some terrific streamer fishing on the Madison, Gibbon, Gardner, Lewis and Snake rivers. Stormy weather is predicted so watch the roads, and if you are in the Park be sure to have some BWO and caddis life cycle patterns in your fly box.
