South Fork 10/27

Everything seems the same here: flows, weather (really nice)streamers in low light conditions, few BWOs during the same conditions, big nymphs. But this weekend a change is coming to put us closer to winter with the clouds and rain/snow. Look then for streamer fishing to pick up daytimes, and if the wind is gentle BWOs will bring fish to the surface.

Henry’s Fork 10/30

Look for action to pick up with the storm coming in. Browns on the lower will be moving in better numbers, and BWOS will begin emerging during daytimes.

Still Water 10/27

Chesterfield and Daniels reservoirs are the stars of the show here. Use leech patterns in fall colors and midge life cycle patterns for action. Springfield Res. is coming on, too. Same kind of flies, and fish open water around weed beds.

Henry’s Lake 10/27

Action is picking up in the shallow water all around the lake. Look for weeds to be breaking up and leech patterns in fall colors to be increasingly effective. Dress warmly!

No change here to speak of other than streamers will get you into the big fish on the lower river. Low light conditions will be the best times to be here.

South Western Montana 10/27

The Madison River is fishing very well throughout. Nymphing is the way to go below Quake Lake, but streamers are working well. Above Quake streamers bring the best action. Migrating browns are providing action on the Beaverhead.

Flows remain the same, and so do the strategies for success. Streamer patterns are the best chance to get into the migrating browns and the big bows and cutts that follow them. Low light conditions will be the best times to be on the river, and until storms show up a few BWOs may show at these times.

Big Lost 10/27

No change here with respect to flows, best patterns, and tactics. Fishing may get a bit crowded below the dam as those seeking some of the best late season dry fly fishing come in from all points.
