Still Water 10/24

Chesterfield Res. is coming on strong to share the spotlight with Daniels Res. Don’t overlook Springfield: it is also producing. Use fall color leeches on all these. And midge pupa under indicators will also produce on each of these. Hawkins and Twenty-four Mile suffer from draw-down, so mud flats are in your way of getting to water on each.

Yellowstone Park 10/24

Fishing season ends the first weekend in November. That’s a bit more than a week from now, so get away to the Park to enjoy the best our country in a set of natural state waters. Bring streamer patterns for the best wet fly fishing and BWO emergers, cripples, and duns for dry fly fishing.

Small Streams 10/24

The Blackfoot River offers great streamer fishing now whether you try the upper river or locations below the reservoir. The lower Teton River also offers streamer fishing as well as some dry action from BWOs during low light conditions.

Main Stem Snake River 10/24

It’s the time of year when this river really shines. It’s mainly streamer fishing, especially during low light conditions. But the rewards can easily be the fish of the year. Walk-in locations are now numerous; come in and talk to us to find out the best places to try.

South Fork 10/24

Flow out of Palisades is still around 3100 cfs, but are sure to drop soon. This makes for great walk-in fishing. Streamers, BWO life cycle patterns and nymphs remain the best bets for action. Cloudy, stormy days will best best time to encounter the largest fish. It’s a great time to be on the river: crowds & bugs have gone. So have a lot of fall colors, but these gorgeous days make up for that loss. Bring a camera.

Henry’s Fork 10/24

Streamers are the way to go, especially if you want to encounter larger fish along the lower river. This also applies to Box Canyon where large nymphs will also give you a chance for the big guys. Low light conditions will be the best time to be on the river.

Henry’s Lake 10/24

No real change in the past few days. Best action is along the southwest corner of the lake and near the State Park. Action along the north shore is picking up, but will really get going as we cool off further. Scud patterns remain very effective, and small leech patterns will work.

Still Water 10/16

Chesterfield continues to improve, and Daniels remains the stalwart excellent fishery whether you prefer such as presenting leech and streamer patterns or midge pupa under an indicator. There are also fish sipping midges at the surface there.  Springfield is coming on as we advance into fall, and like Daniels a variety of presentations offer success.

Yellowstone Park 10/16

Streamers and BWO life cycle patterns make for the best fishing almost anywhere. The Madison River drainage also features midge emergences that are bringing fish to the surface. Hoppers are pretty much gone because of hard frosts.  In the near future look for some late autumn fisheries to become places to consider. This includes the run of browns into the Gardner River, Trout Lake with its huge cuts and ‘bows, and the run of browns into the Snake River.

Small Streams 10/20

Stick to the Blackfoot, Teton, Warm and Portneuf sized streams now. Colder weather shuts down smaller streams because insect activity shuts down and water levels drop.
