We have a topic that is being discussed on our facebook page I wanted to let you all know about. Last week I posted a question asking our customers how they felt about Fish and Game opening the section from Ashton Dam to Vernon Bridge during the winter season. This is the only piece of water on the Henry’s Fork that is closed during the off season with the exception of Herriman State Park and the State has regulations from the Herriman Family about fishing access and seasons for that section.

We are interested in how  you all feel about this section being opened to fish. Do you oppose it, why? Are you in favor of having more river access to fish in the winter and off season on the Henry’s Fork, why?

Feel free to leave a comment here or go to our facebook page and join the conversation.

There are a few new items in the shop that we wanted to tell you about. First of all I aim very excited about Will Godfrey’s book, Season of the Steelhead. It has great photographs and is very informative. If you like chasing steelhead this book is a must for you.

While talking about Steelhead fishing we have some new Alec Jackson steelhead hook as well. They are called the Steelhead Irons, they differ from the regular Alec Jackson hooks we have all come to love. The steelhead irons have a shorter shank  and have a heavier wire. They come in #3 and #5.We also have some new Dave McNeese Spey hooks in called the Blue Heron hook. They come in a size #1 and #2. This is a long shank hook designed for tying spey flies.

We have have some new product form Enrico Puglisi the man behind the EP Fibers. We now have the Ep Trantula hairy Legs brush. These are a dubbing brush that come in a 1/2″ and 1′ size. They have EP fibers mixed with floss legs. These are great for heads on streamers and body material. We also have 5 new colors of sili legs. These legs are titled as “Perfect Barred” Sili legs, and let me tell you these barred legs are perfect.

One more book to mention by Jim Schollmeyer and Ted Leeson “Flies for Western Super Hatches.” This is a fly tiers book for tying western river hatches. Its got great photos of every step for tying the patterns included in the book.

Hey guys hope everything is going well for you this week. We are busy getting things ready for the upcoming season. If you haven’t heard already we are putting together special topics classes so if you have any desires for a class let us know. Also we have started signups for our beginner fly tying class. This is a great class for beginner fly fisherman as well cause it teaches them the basic of entomology and fly selection. It’s also a lot of fun as well.

We have gotten some new tying materials in the shop. We are now carrying Select Craft Fur. We have 30 different colors to choose from. Craft fur is used for tying saltwater patterns and streamers. The select craft fur we brought into the shop is a higher grade fur than the standard many have tied with for years.

Happy New Year! Just a few things to get you updated on whats going on around the shop. We have gotten a respectable stock of whiting feathers back into the shop. It seems the hair craze has really slowed down to the point we are getting restocked on Saddle hackles. We still do not have dyed saddles but we have a great selection of saddles in natural colors. If you looking for feathers dyed we have gotten the Buger Packs in many different colors. If you haven’t had a chance to see this item it is really useful. I use them for everything from wolley buggers to leeches to Steelhead flies.Bugger Packs are a good alternative to purchasing a full saddle for tying wet flies and you would be surprised the amount of feathers you get for $18.

Today’s tying demo featured Shawn Bostic.  Shawn did a great job and is another talented tier that Eastern Idaho seems to have more than its share of.  The Saturday tying demos will continue through March 31st.

In addition to the demos we are starting starting the beginning fly tying classes next week. One 5 week class begins Thursday January 5th and a second class begins on Tuesday January 10th

After finishing the year end inventory this week we put several clothing items from Simms and Patagonia on the sale rack that are discontinued in 2012.  Some of the pieces include Simms short sleeve Tattersall shirts,  Cocona long sleeve crew neck shirts and Patagonia Gi II pants.

Finally we want to thank everyone for your support this past year and wish everyone a great new year in 2012!

For Day #5 I wanted to post a item we carry that most of you probably don’t know we have. Its a great gift, or  stocking stuffer. Its also reasonably priced at $23.95, so we wont break the bank like the item from yesterdays post.

This is the Palm West Leather Money Clip. We have different styles and colors. Palm West has a great description about the use of money clips so I am going to let them do the talking. You can find this item available at the shop stop by or give us a call if you have questions.

Why go to all this trouble? Because we understand that men’s furnishings reflect the character and standards of their owners.

I believe we are on Day #4 of our 12 gifts for the Holidays buying guide. So today is no different than the last three days expect this is going to be the highest priced item on the 12 day list.

Allow me to introduce you to the Sage One. This is the replacement for the Z-Axis and oh boy is it a dandy of a fly rod. Sage has been able to produce this rod so that it is light, stronger and has a consistent feel of the line through the entire rod. Sage classifies this rod as their “all around”. I had the oppertunity to fish with this rod over the summer for an entire week. I was impressed with its ability to throw large Dry flies, heavy nymph rigs, and also present a size 18 PMD with the finest of presentation. Speaking from first hand experience this truly is an all around fly rod.

Sage has been able to cut weight through the new Konnetic technology. They have also been able to shave weight through the use of new hardware from the cork handle to the tip top guide. This rod would be a home run for any angler on your list…I promise.

Day #3 of our Holiday gift guide. Today I want to feature a new reel company we have brought into the shop.

Nautilus Reels are produced in Florida and have been at the forefront of the Saltwater reel market for a few years now. They make a very high end high quality reel that puts the tested tried and true Tibor reels a run for their money. We have brought in their new trout reel.

The Nautilus FWX is a fully machined reel with a sealed drag system and comes at a price point of $250. This reel is saltwater safe and to compare other reels in terms of quality, workmanship and features you would looking to spend a least another $100. These reels come in three sizes, 3/4wt, 5/6wt and a 7/8wt. Available in a silver or black finish.
