Tying Demo 12-30-17

10:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M., Saturdays from November 25th, 2017 though March, 2018
Each year Jimmy’s All Seasons Angler features this winter-time institution.   These Saturday fly tying demonstrations are free to the public.  Attending the demos is a great way to learn tying techniques, new and old, and to stay current on the use of materials and tools. The tiers we feature are among the best.  Each has great experience in tying and use of the flies they demonstrate.  Each is ready to share their tying and presentation knowledge and skills with you.

We began our winter slate of Saturday fly tying demos on Saturday, November 25th. So far we have scheduled tiers up to and including Saturday, January 13th. Take a look below at who is scheduled.Bring your fly tying questions to the shop any time.  We have fly tiers on our staff with enough experience to answer any question you may have on materials, equipment, technique, and presentation.  On moving through the given dates, we will post a bio for the upcoming tier.

Saturday, January 20th   Danny Lane

Danny started tying flies 21 years ago. His stepfather taught him using the strict “mohair leeches and woolly buggers are the only patterns you’ll ever need to know” philosophy. After 6 years of tying and fishing almost exclusively buggers and leeches, a trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, and its incredible dry fly fishing (that’s 100 miles of bummin’ humpies) found Danny a changed lad.

Danny studied English literature in college at Boise State University, and fully intended on using that lucrative degree toward something fruitful to support his wife and daughter, but as it often does, fly fishing’s call proved too loud. He now guides full time for Three Rivers Ranch (TRR) in Warm River, Idaho. In the off season, Danny ties commercially for TRR to the tune of about 700 dozen flies a year. His philosophy on tying and his philosophy on guiding are one in the same (assuming we’re talking dry flies here), highly visible, and relentlessly buoyant flies, fished on the stoutest tippet a fish could conceivably tolerate, leads to more fish hooked, less fish lost, and happier boat all around.  This will be Danny’s first tying demo at Jimmy’s.
